You know that feeling when you stumble upon something na “sulit” that you start questioning your life choices before? (Uy, Exagge)

That was me standing inside a beef shop in Marilao, Bulacan, holding a pack of Angus patties like it was treasure.

I owe this discovery to my sister-in-law who recently moved here. (By recently I mean 10 years ago) Since my mom also lives in Marilao and I’ll be staying for a while, I figured why not make the most of it, right?

So off I went, armed with ₱2,500 and a mission: find out if this “Refined Selections Beef Shop” is really worth the hype.

The ₱2,547.48 Haul

Here’s what I got:

  • Australian Angus Frankfurter with Cheese (₱332)

  • Rib Fingers, 525g (₱220.50)

  • AUS Angus Corned Beef, 480g (₱240)

  • Aussie Burger Patty, 5pcs, 1-inch thick (₱450)

  • Breakfast Steak, 820g (₱401.80)

  • AUS Classic Ribeye, 650g (₱403)

  • Australian Premium Flat Iron Steak, 655g (₱500.18)

Total: ₱2,547.48 only.

Various packages of frozen meat, including Angus beef and sausages, on a patterned gray tablecloth. Labels are visible with product names.

What. A. Steal.

One customer I met who was from Cavite, was buying by the bulk.

He said he drives all the way here just for their Angus burger patties (both thin and thick).

Honestly, he looked like he was prepping for the apocalypse. LOL.

People shop for meat in a store with glass freezers. Signs display meat types. One person carries a red basket. Warm lighting.

So on to the “Taste Test”

I actually went there because of a single cut of ribeye that my sister-in-law gave me the day before. I cooked it for breakfast the next morning—pan-seared, salt and pepper, no nonsense. Usually, I do my steaks medium rare, but this time I went medium rare to medium just to see if it would get tough.

Grilled steak and scrambled eggs on a transparent plate with a striped pattern. The steak is cut in a slice, revealing a pink center.

Surprisingly?

Still tender.

But flavor-wise, I found it a bit lacking in that beefy punch. It was also slightly dry inside, probably because it was too lean, even for a ribeye.

So here’s a quick tip if you ever visit:Pick cuts with visible marbling or fat to keep the flavor and juiciness when you cook.

For me, this kind of beef might shine better when marinated, maybe something garlicky or pepper-crusted to boost that profile.

Still, considering the quality and the price?

Let’s be real. You won’t find this kind of deal easily.

Not US Prime Angus-level, sure. But at ₱2.5k for all that? Aarte ka pa ba?

If you’re from the area (or even if you’re not), this is the meat plug worth the drive.

Because sometimes, the best finds aren’t from fancy butcheries. They’re tucked in small towns, waiting for someone curious enough to look. wink
